The imprint of the late Anne M. Garrott, president emerita of the SWBCA Board, as a bridge from those founding women in 1870 through the end of the 20th century is evident. She was the driving force behind the continuity of the core programs of leadership development for women and youth over the years as well as conceiving and organizing a Pioneer Women’s Hall of Fame that recognized outstanding Black women from the local community. This current celebration of African American history continues and combines concern for our past and an element of our vision statement to support social, educational and entertainment events for organizations and families.

SWBCA again sponsored the Black & Women’s History program featuring the Freedom Choir and Daisy Century in a presentation of an historic female character this March.

Inaugural Black and Women’s History program event was as a “Get to Know Us “ effort at Belmont Mansion on March 12, 2017 to complement our reputation as an organization providing college scholarships. It offered a range of artists to emphasize Black history and the impact of important Black women in the history of African Americans in this country and a repast. The program included the Freedom Choir, a spoken work artist and Daisy Century who offers historic presentations of characters, including Harriet Tubman and Sojourner Truth.
